ABOUT
Hi, there! I'm Alex Duncan, a multidisciplinary artist based in McKinney, Texas. My work is influenced by vintage photographs, pop culture images, the natural world, and a desire to escape into dreamy compositions. Born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina, I received her BA in Art History at The American University of Paris. It was during my time in France that I discovered my passion for collage, starting with traditional techniques before transitioning to the digital medium. My background in art history gives me a unique perspective in creating collages that tell a story and transport viewers to a more peaceful place.
STATEMENT
The world can be a stressful, anxiety inducing place where we each have to carve out pockets of peace for ourselves, away from the demands of the everyday. I believe escapism plays a vital role in leading a full life, so my work uses dreamy visuals of the past and present to tell a story viewers can get lost in. I’m inspired by tender moments between mother and child, couples in love, beautiful, far away places, and all the things that make living worthwhile.
My process begins with a dive into my collection of found images; I then puzzle together seemingly disparate elements into a cohesive whole. As an art historian, I’m interested in what connects the visual languages of different time periods, and my work explores various relationships between the then and now.
